THE GREAT British spirit rose to the occasion as communities throughout West Suffolk and Thetford revelled in red, white and blue and despite downpours on Sunday celebrated 60 years of Queen Elizabeth 11’s reign.

Bunting, flags, face painting and Royal fervour was out in force as villages and streets staged street parties and Jubilee events.

Beacons were lit in the Abbey Gardens, at the giant picnic in Culford, in Stowmarket, Lavenham, at Beck Row and in Thetford.

A giant street party was staged on Market Hill in Thetford while today Ixworth village holds its large street party and the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds goes retro with a 50s style Jubilee Fete with live music, fairground rides at 1950’s prices, a tug of war and traditional competitions.
