Two roads in Thetford are currently closed after a hit-and-run incident in which a lorry drove into the side of a building.

Police were called to the incident at the junction of Earls Street and St Giles’ Lane at 7.20am to reports that a lorry had collided with the side of a building, which was covered in scaffolding. Following the collision the lorry drove off.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service were called at 7.51am to assist. A spokeswoman for the service said there is now one appliance on scene assisting the police.

The roads are currently closed while Breckland Council engineers on site assess the damage done to the building. Highways officers are also on the scene.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said some scaffolding poles from the damaged building are leaning on the power lines, but no one’s power supply has been interrupted.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Thetford Police Station on 101.
