AS COMMUNITIES prepared to rally together in support of Christian Aid, charitable Moreton Hall residents got a head start on fund-raising.

Old and young, even a clown and a dog, teamed up to complete 10 laps of the sports field next to Christ Church, in Lawson’s Place.

The sponsored fun run, which took place on May 7, was the third of its kind but, unlike last year when it rained throughout, this year’s event was held in glorious sunshine.

Celebrity rocker Rick Wakeman, best known as former keyboardist in rock band Yes, made a guest appearance, dropping the flag to get runners started.

June Peck, 74, from Airfield Road, said she had been apprehensive about the challenge but took part to help less fortunate people.

Flic Garey went along to support her granddaughter, Saffron, who ran the course with pet dog Bruno.

“I’m very proud of her,” she said.
