The future of a swimming pool at a village school has been secured for generations to come following a £50,000 revamp.

Barrow Primary’s pool boasts new insulation, floors, windows, showers, a toilet and an air-source heat pump, which will heat the facility using just 25 per cent of the current electricity consumption.

It follows a six month refurbishment project between the school and the Newmarket-based Elite Swimming Academy (ESA).

The work allows the school to have full year round use of the pool and ESA will use it as a coaching venue out of school hours.

They will also be able to offer the pool as a year round facility to the local community for lettings.

Head Helen Ashe said: “We’re delighted our pool’s future is secure. This an important development to our provision.”

ESA founder Ed Williams added: “We’re looking forward to offering private lessons in this beautifully refurbished pool.”
