Residents missing out on benefits

Have your say

RESIDENTS could be missing out on bigger housing benefits – in one case as much as £40 a week – in the Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill areas.

Many people do not understand what they are entitled to, according to Havebury Housing Partnership, which manages 6,000 homes, so it has introduced a special trial calculation service to steer tenants on the right path.

Benefits and welfare adviser Paul Finch said Havebury did a trial calculation for an older couple.

“They didn’t realise they qualified for housing benefit worth £40 a week, which has since made a huge difference to their standard of living,” said Mr Finch.
