Snap Fitness in Thetford is a winner with residents

People in Thetford are keen to keep fit as one newly-opened gym has discovered.

Snap Fitness at the Riverside Leisure complex in the town has proved it is on the winning track after signing up its 1,000th client within just three months of opening.

The gym provides clients with 24/7 access and has proved to be the fastest growing club in the Snap Fitness organisation, having been named Snap Fitness New Club of the Year.

Ben Hill runs the business and its four personal trainers can tailor a package and price for clients or people can just pop in and use the gym as and when it suits them.

Ben said: “People like the 24 hour access and have commented on the friendliness.

“I’ve worked in the industry for 12 years and noticed when I moved here that people in Thetford love fitness.

“They can enjoy a world class facility and top of the range equipment when it suits them.”

One client is Dave Sildown who took early retirement from his work with the Care Quality Commission when he was diagnosed with cancer three years ago.

He said: “I’ve found it non judgemental, welcoming and full of help. People are really approachable.

“I had two years of being out of everything and needed someone to help build my confidence. The guys have been fantastic. It’s a very special place.”

Thetford Mayor Roy Brame said he believes the promotion of fitness for the town is making a difference.

Some years ago the Thetford was highlighted as among the most unfit in the country but that has now changed.

Both the town council and Breckland District Council have been promoting healthy living for residents and the Saturday morning parkrun in the Abbey Meadows is thriving.

“Thetford is now thinking about being fit,” said Clr Brame.
