Elveden and Brandon forest fires continue with firefighters called to two more this afternoon




Firefighters have tackled two more forest fires this afternoon after extinguishing another in the same area last night.

In what has become a series of incidents in the area, fire services from Suffolk and Norfolk have been dispatched to forest fires near Elveden and Brandon five times in the last three weeks, prior to today.

This afternoon, crews from Thetford, Brandon, Mildenhall and Newmarket were called into action after reports of a forest fire near the B1106 in Elveden were received at 2.22pm.

Firefighters found an area of around 4,000 square metres ablaze and used four hose reels to bring the fire under control, with the flames having been extinguished by 3.37pm.

At 4.41pm, another call was received regarding a second forest fire on Brandon Road near Thetford.

Four crews, from Thetford, Methwold, Attleborough and Hethersett attended the incident and the fire was brought under control by 6.07pm.
