Stowmarket’s popular annual music festival StowFest is being relaunched as StowFiesta - bringing comedy, dance, circus and children’s entertainment into the mix.

Since bursting on the music scene in 2007, StowFest has become a firm fixture on Suffolk’s festival calendar and a useful platform for charities to fund raise and new music acts to showcase their talents.

This year’s event, which takes place on Friday June 20 and Saturday June 21, has been renamed StowFiesta with a more diverse roster of entertainment added to the line-up.

David Marsh, Events and Theatre Manager at Stowmarket Town Council said: “We’re proud of our reputation for putting on great live music - but we felt there was scope to appeal to more people, particularly families.

“Therefore, StowFiesta will feature stand-up comedy, Punch and Judy, local dance acts, circus skills, plus much more - and its all free.

“We’ve even made the car parking free this year.”

Friday night will see local comedian Richard Whymark compare the evenings entertainment with performances from comedian Danny Ward and piano driven trio Zoom Club. Among the bands confirmed for StowFiesta are Ska’d 4 Life, Tallowah, East Town Pirates, Walkway, ,Mojo Jojo, Voodoo Child, Finding Albert and The Dirty Fairies,

David said music fans should rest easy that there is still a great line-up of bands and acts.

“StowFest was extremely popular with the region’s music lovers, so we are not going to mess with that, but in addition to the original music stages, we’ll have a stage exclusively for cover bands and tribute acts.

“We’ve got some amazing bands from all over the country on the bill, plus the cream of the local music scene.

“There’s a great mix of original bands and covers bands to cater to everyone.

“We’ve also got the Amplitude Stage featuring young bands from the Amplitude project which is always popular.”
