Record breaking World War Two beret sold at Stowmarket auction




A rare World War Two Special Air Service Regiment sand coloured beret has fetched £21,700 in a military and medals auction which took place on Saturday at Bishop and Miller's Stowmarket Salerooms, breaking previous records.

The high-selling lot, at the Charles Industrial Estate site, which was sold to a collector based in Switzerland, was amongst a number of other sought-after items including a Siebe Gorman and Co diver's knife which sold for £2,300 and a Norfolk Regiment D.C.M. M.M. Mon's trio World War One medal group, which sold for £2,400.

Oliver Miller, managing director of the auctioneers, said: “We had an exciting few days of auctions and our customers had certainly done their homework on many of our collectibles with some exceeding estimates.

"The rare World War II beret was certainly our star lot, world record breaker nonetheless, and we had a number of competitive bids before the auction opened so we knew it was one to watch."
