This week we have two poems – Strictly Come Dancing by Trish Rissen and Choice by Jackie Chitty.


It’s such a colourful sight

as to the music they swirl

with such rhythm and grace.

As their audience they face

gliding they swoop and whirl

making such a colourful sight.

The watchers gasp at the pace

of their flashing feet as they twirl

this is more than rhythm and grace.

They spin and turn to delight

those dashing boys and girls

who make such a colourful sight.

Draped in satin and lace

in sparking sequins and pearls

spinning with rhythm and grace.

Flying through time and space

with style and panache they swirl

making such a colourful show

each dance ending with an embrace.



Early, I shuffle into the soul-


bus-stop gathering, and am

held upright and inanimate by buggies, walking sticks and re-usable bags made fat with

High Street consumables,

as I make my choice –

Number 48 or Number 548?

Twenty minutes or forty?

Costa coffee won’t wait for a 48.

Hudson’s rosé can make it





Giddy, I return,

seek 48.

On the dot, still popping, I pause …

swaying kerb,

thumb out,

tingling …
