Have your say

This week’s poems are the timely Father’s Day, by Jan Parkin, and Don’t Break my Heart, by Wilf Daniells.

On Father’s Day we celebrate

The men who we do care

The men who’ve loved and nurtured us

Cared for us and been there

Through troubled times

And fun filled days

In darkness and in light

They’ve watched out for us

And fought for us

And made our journey light

Their acceptance

And their strength of mind

Their steadfastness consistent

Has lined the path throughout our lives

And helped us be resistant

For even though not always there

They’ll always be someone

Who we are proud to call our dad

it could be anyone

For it really doesn’t matter,

biological or not

For the difference that they have made isn’t easily forgot

So on this Father’s Day we’ll remember

The real meaning of the day

And the difference that these men have made

To our lives in each way.

A man should always lead the way

So I must go and you must stay

This I know is the only way

Don’t break my heart and die today

Don’t leave me here alone I pray

I’d not know, what to do or say

In my bed I would just lay

And pine and pine and pine away.
