Have your say

This week’s poem, called Peacetime, is by Jan Parkin.

Listen to the silence

Listen to its sound

For peace and all its beauty

Is so good to be around

Do not take for granted

The stillness so enchanting

Like flowers that grow up from the soil

And blossom from their planting

For silence is short living

Its presence comes and goes

With conflict in the world today

Creating highs and lows

The wars that never stop out there

That interrupt its flow

And the fine line that divides the lands

For some will never know

So listen while it’s silent

Let the nation softly sleep

And pray that there’ll be no more wars

To wake from slumber deep

Be with its every moment

In your every waking hour

As we can’t be sure how long it’s here

When chaos robs its power....
