READERS’ POETRY: From the Bury Free Press of Friday, December 2

Readers' poetry
Readers' poetry

This week’s poem, which has a festive theme, is by Barbara Keeling.

How many sleeps until Christmas?

How many cards to send

How many days to spend

on presents and Christmas wrapping paper,

glitter, coloured ribbons and red velvet bows .

How many sleeps until Christmas?

Checking the list for things to do

Sprinkles on the cookies and mincepies to bake

Helping with costumes for the school Christmas show

Hoping the weather forecast will say snow.

How many sleeps until Christmas?

The tree needs decorating

The cake needs icing

The presents need wrapping

The stuffing needs mixing.

How many sleeps until Christmas?

It’s Christmas Eve at last and all the jobs are done

Presents under the tree, now it’s time for fun .

The tree lights are twinkling

Candles are lit

Carols from King’s College

The table is set.

How many sleeps until Christmas?

Only one more!
