Three men who forced their way into a 90-year-old woman’s home claimed they were there to check for leaks in spite of wearing balaclavas.

They entered the house in Coney Weston Road, Sapiston, between 6pm and 6.30pm yesterday by the back door and when they encountered the woman, told her that there was a water leak and they needed to check the property.

The house was then searched by two of the men, while the third remained with the victim in the kitchen telling her sit down and not to move. The victim was not harmed.

Two house phones and some keys were stolen during this incident. The suspects are described as wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area yesterday afternoon.

Contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 quoting reference 32256/16, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Suffolk Police say they are investigating whether this incident is linked with three men being found in an elderly woman’s home in Thelnetham. Click here for that story.
