A SPECIAL fund-raising event is being held to mark the 10th anniversary of a popular Bury Town footballer’s death.

Marc Lucchi was just 18-years-old when he was killed in a car accident on the A14, near the sugar beet factory in Bury St Edmunds.

Every year since his death, parents Robbie and Sandra, from Moreton Hall, have organised a football game at Bury Town to raise money for Headway, a charity that works to improve life after brain injury.

“He hit his head badly and if he had survived, Headway would not only have looked after him but us as well in trying to accept what happened,” said Robbie.

This year’s football match will be held around August but, to mark the 10th anniversary, two of Marc’s friends have also organised a race night at Moreton Hall Community Centre on March 17. It will start at 7pm, with races from 8pm.

There will also be a draw, with prizes including shirts signed by Arsenal football and England rugby players.

“I didn’t realise how well liked he was, it’s just got bigger,” said proud Robbie.
