Mildenhall pupils' emotional hello and goodbye

Emotions have been running high at a Mildenhall primary school recently.

On Monday and Tuesday, more than 150 pupils from Years 2,3,4, and 5 were welcomed back in small groups for an hour and a half each time, to say hello to teachers, old and new.

The previous Friday, more than 30 Year 6 pupils who have already returned to Great Heath Academy were treated to pizzas, cake, videos and a virtual award ceremony, as they completed their final year, with an end of term bash.

During the day, Year 6 pupils also gathered in the school’s car park to wave to their friends who haven't yet returned - and who instead, took part in a drive past, with their parents.

“There has been lots of excited hellos and tearful goodbyes,” said David Hicks, senior teacher and safeguarding lead.

“The younger pupils were invited in on Monday and Tuesday to say hello and goodbye to their old teachers and to meet their new ones for coming year, while the older ones, who are leaving us, said their goodbyes to the school.”
