Bury St Edmunds Round Table, which organises the annual Fireworks Spectacular in the Abbey Gardens, is running a competition this year with all primary schools in the area.
The competition is asking for children to draw their best fireworks inspired picture, with the winner to be chosen by the Mayor of St Edmundsbury, Cllr Terry Buckle.
As well as winning a family ticket to the event on November 2, the winner will also join Cllr Buckle on the stage and, as a special VIP, will be responsible for pushing the plunger to send the first firework of the display into the air.
“We are really excited about this year’s display and are delighted to be able to give a local school child the opportunity to start the display in front of thousands of people in the Abbey Gardens,” said Robin Cutler, secretary of Bury Round Table.
The proceeds from the event, which is usually several thousand pounds, is given to local charities and good causes in the Bury area.
Tickets will be going on sale shortly at the Bury Free Press office in King’s Road, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, The Apex Box Office, Croasdales and the Tourist Information Centre.
