Provider 'requires improvement' says Ofsted

A Bury St Edmunds learning provider has been rated ‘requires improvement’ for the second time after a recent Ofsted inspection.

WS Training Ltd, in Church Road, was inspected in June and scored ‘good’ for provision for learners with high needs and ‘requires improvement’ for all other categories.

The provider, which offers apprenticeships in human resources and the construction industry, was last inspected in January 2017.

Inspectors found ‘leaders have not focused sufficiently on improving quality of learning and assessment’ and ‘have not significantly improved the proportion of learners who achieve their qualifications’.

Among the training provider’s strengths were that ‘leaders work very effectively with the local authority to provide good preparation for employment for learners’.

The report also said ‘tutors use their vocational knowledge and experience effectively to enable apprentices and learners with high needs to make good progress’.

Kirstie Wright, CEO of WS Training Ltd, said: “Over the previous two years WS Training has worked hard to build upon recommendations made at the previous Ofsted inspection. We have made some significant improvements across apprenticeship provision; one of which was noted by Ofsted, ‘Leaders have a strong focus on improving the English and mathematics skills of learners and apprentices. A higher proportion now achieve their qualifications’.

“With the improvements noted, we are in an advantageous position now to use the information gained following our recent Ofsted inspection to continue our journey to work towards further improving.”
