Celebrity judge Helen Fraser, star of television shows and films including Billy Liar and Bad Girls, will help decide the winners of categories including handsomest dog, prettiest bitch, best puppy and dog that looks most like its owner.

The actress, who will also be bringing her pug along on the day, said: “Here’s to a happy and successful show.

“I’m looking forward to judging the dog show and hope we have a fine weather day. It’s something I’ve never done before.”

Paws in the Park will feature three arenas of entertainment and demonstrations, including a gun dog scurry and dog agility, with the chance for visiting dogs and their owners to have a go.

In addition, event sponsors Swayne and Partners vets will be offering pet care and microchipping advice and information while there will also be a puppy zone, tombola, trade stalls, family fun, attractions, food and refreshments.

The event will take place from 11am to 4pm with dog show registration from 11am to noon. On-the-day tickets cost adults £5, children £3 and £15 for a family.
