An accolade for outstanding achievement has gone to Renford Sargent, Chairman of Premier Travel, which has offices in Bury St Edmunds.

Mr Sargent, who has worked in the travel industry for 50 years, was given an Outstanding Contribution to the Induustry award at the annual Travel Weekly Agent Achievement Awards at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Hotel on July 13.

He began his career as a trainee travel clerk for Premier in 1965 before becoming manager of the former Rose Crescent branch in Cambridge. He then worked his way up to become group director in 1982.

He and Peter Andrews bought the Cambridge-based business in the mid 1980s and they remain owners of the company which has 17 travel branches across East Anglia.

The company was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Travel Network Group earlier this year.

Mr Sargent said: “To be honoured by my peers for this award is a highlight of my career. It is a double celebration for the whole of the Premier Group as we continue to celebrate our 80th anniversary this year.”
