Bury St Edmunds main Post Office closed the doors of its Victorian home for the last time today and will open upstairs next door in W H Smith in Cornhill tomorrow morning.

In spite of a campaign by local people, politicians and the Communications Workers’ Union the Post Office decided to move to a franchised operation in the heart of Bury.

The new Post Office signs went up on the front of W H Smith this week, alongside Smith’s familiar blue livery.

The Post Office says the move will allow longer opening hours, including Sundays.
