A popular Mildenhall playground opposite the town’s Sainsbury’s which was closed in July over safety concerns is expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Mildenhall Parish Council held an extraordinary meeting last night (September 4) to dicuss the playground’s fate following deepening concern from users about its continued closure.

It was forced to close the playground, which underwent a £100,000 revamp in 2009, on July 3 after pieces of its safety surfacing started to lift and split.

A statement from the council, released after last night’s meeting, said it had ‘decided to look into legal options’ as work to repair the playground’s safety surfacing could not be completed under gaurantee.

During the summer the Jubilee Field has been used for ball games, picnics and as a play space for local families.

A statement from the council released on Monday (September 1) said: “The council is fully aware that [the playground] is used and loved by a vast amount of children and adults.”

The council has promised to reopen the playground ‘as soon as it possibly can’.
