Police urge drivers in Thetford and Downham Market to be vigiliant after spate of car thefts




Drivers in Thetford and Downham Market have been urged to be vigilant after 25 cars in the area were broken into since March.

The thefts took place between March 1 and May 11, with purses, wallets and handbags having been taken in the majority of cases.

The locations of the incidents included Thetford, Watton, Swaffham, Hockham, Great Hockham, Methwold, Harling, East Harling, Lynford, Heacham, Feltwell, Shouldham Thorpe, Croxton and Wereham.

Chief Inspector Amie Abbs said: "We are investigating these incidents and our Safer Neighbourhood Teams are focussing patrols in these areas as our enquiries continue.

"I would urge motorists to make sure their cars are locked when left unattended and to ensure all valuables, such as handbags, wallets and phones, are removed from the vehicle.”

Witnesses are asked to call Sergeant Simon Jones at Thetford Police Station on 101.
