SUFFOLK Police have upped their police presence on the streets tonight following the riots in London and elsewhere.
Tonight and for the next few nights there will be high visibility patrols in specific areas in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft manned by additional officers, Police Community Support Officers and specials who have volunteered for extra duties, said a spokesman.
Today Police dismissed as ‘malicious’ rumours which have been circulating on social networking sites about disorder on the county’s streets.
Assistant Chief Constable Paul Marshall said: “We would like to inform residents of Suffolk that there is no unrest here in the county. We understand how distressing theses rumours must be to residents of Suffolk and can assure people there is no substance in them.”
More Suffolk officers were travelling to London this afternoon and overnight to support the Metropolitain Police dealing with the violence which has flared in the capital.
