Six people have been reported for hare coursing following an incident in Elmswell yesterday.

Police were called at 9.30am to reports of a group of people with dogs and two vehicles on a field near Lyle Close, Elmswell.

A number of police units were sent to the area, supported by the National Police Air Service helicopter, and they began searching for the suspects.

Officers detained the first suspect at around 10.25am and by 11am six adults and one child had also been detained.

Two vehicles – a Subaru Impreza and a Honda CRV – were both seized under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.

The six adults – five men, aged 41, 38, 32, 23 and 20, from the Northampton area and a 46-year-old man from Basildon – have all been reported for consideration of the offence of trespassing in pursuit of game.

Police enquiries are continuing and witnesses are asked to contact the Stowmarket Neighbourhood Response Team on 101 quoting reference 70550/16.
