Police appeal following playground arson

Police are appealing for witnesses after an incident of arson at a children’s playground in Mendlesham.

Suffolk Fire Service received numerous calls to reports of playground equipment and a nearby building alight in Old Station Road, Mendlesham, shortly after noon on Sunday October 27.

Crews from Eye and Stowmarket found about 10m by 10m of plastic and rubber matting of a play area well alight.

They used a hosereel to extinguish the fire and a thermal image camera to check for hotspots.

The fire service said the cause was deliberate ignition.

The fire was under control by about 12.50pm.
