Police appeal after assault on Bury St Edmunds taxi driver

Police are appealing for help tracing a man who assaulted a taxi driver near the Spar Shop, in Hunter Road, Bury St Edmunds, last weekend.

The victim, aged in his 60s, was waiting for a passenger at around 7.45pm on Saturday (September 26) when the offender approached the window asking if the vehicle was a taxi.

The driver said he was but that he was waiting for a passenger.

The man then punched him through the open window and dragged him out of the taxi onto the ground where he punched him a further two or three times before members of the public intervened.

He is described as white, aged between 35 and 40 years of age, around 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build, with either bald or very short hair, and wearing a grey T-shirt with a dark hoody and dark bottoms.

Anyone who is able to identify the man described or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Pc Emma Stacey at Bury Police Station on 101 quoting crime number BU/15/3139 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
