The popularity of Pokémon Go is no secret and businesses in Bury St Edmunds are being encouraged to take advantage of the new craze.
Members of Ourburystedmunds, the town’s Business Improvement District, have been advised of ways to capitalise on the new gaming phenomenon.
“As soon as we became aware of this ‘craze’ we wanted to make our businesses aware of how they can take advantage of it,” said BID chief executive Mark Cordell.
In a newsletter to members, he shared a link to information about how the game, which is effectively played in the ‘real world’, has been already benefitted thousands of businesses across the UK.
Some have been turned into virtual Gyms or PokéStops, places players go to battle other Pokémon trainers or to stock up on supplies, while others have been using the game’s in-app purchases, such as Lures, to drive foot traffic to them.
Mr Cordell said he did not know if any Bury businesses had taken advantage of this yet.
