Plenty to shout about at first Abbey festival

Have your say

TOP acts including Lulu, Shakin’ Stevens, Alexander O’Neal and Aswad are to perform at a summer festival in Bury St Edmunds.

The first Abbeyfest will be held in the Abbey Gardens from July 22 to July 24.

The festival line up is still being finalised, but there is already plenty to shout about – Lulu will be performing on the Friday, her only UK tour date this year.

The Saturday will see a line up of motown, soul and reggae with performances from Alexander O’Neal, Heatwave and Aswad.

Former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman and his Rhythm Kings take to the stage on the Sunday with guest appearances by Shakin’ Stevens, and Rick Wakeman and The Strawbs.

Festivalgoers can take along their own picnic (although no glass bottles are allowed) or enjoy on-site refreshments including beer tents.

“It is fantastic that an event of this scale is coming to Bury,” said festival spokeswoman Sarah Stamp. “We are fortunate in this region to have a number of top quality music events, but this really will be a date for the diary with a whole host of top quality, world class acts.

“With such a variety, there is something for everyone, and it is a great way to introduce children to live music in a family friendly, safe environment.” Tickets are on sale through Balaam’s Music Shop, in Risbygate Street, from the UEA on 01603 508050 or online by following the link at

Tickets start at £11 – there are also passes for the whole weekend.
