PUPILS from a village school donned pirate outfits and commandeered the stage at a fund-raising concert.
The Woolpit Primary School children performed two sea shanties for more than 80 people during the event at St Mary’s Church.
They joined local musicians Ben Sayer, Alex Highton, Ananda and The Plimpies, who each sang a set of songs.
The concert raised £331. Following a donation to the church, the money will be used to hold music workshops and demonstrations of unusual instruments at the school.
It is planned to involve the group Suffolk Folk in the workshops.
Organiser David Scotford said: “I thought it would be nice to put on a concert and the vicar mentioned that we could have a charity element.
“We wanted to showcase local songwriters and raise money to encourage the children’s natural interest in music.
“It was a great community evening and the church setting was fantastic.
“We really shook those angels.
“Thanks to all those children, parents and musicians who helped to make it such a successful event.”
