PICTURES: Pupils among the first to master the StreetVelodrome in Bury
Pupils from across the Bury St Edmunds area have been among the first to try the StreetVelodrome in the arc shopping centre.
The Velodrome is in Charter Square until Sunday when the Suffolk Saints cycling team will take part in the penultimate round of the UK StreetVelodrome Series.
Local schools and The West Suffolk Wheelers cycling club have been trying the track first today, followed by evening sessions for local businesses including Suffolk County Council, Abbeycroft Leisure, and Suffolk Sport.
Tomorrow (July 16), the track is open to all-comers. The Suffolk Saints will be on hand during the three days to coach local riders of all ages and abilities with age appropriate bikes and helmets provided.
On Sunday, July, 17, televised by BT Sport, the Suffolk Saints will compete in the pro-rounds. Local riders can also take part in the amateur rounds.
The winners of the amateur competition - one male and one female - will then represent the county in the SuperFinals, staged in front of Buckingham Palace, on July 30.
StreetVelodrome has been brought to Bury through a collaboration between Suffolk County Council and Abbeycroft Leisure, in association with St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Bury Town Council.
