Ixworth Pharmacy has introduced paper prescription bags for the first time in a move to protect the planet from plastic waste.

The pharmacy, based at Ixworth Surgery, is hoping that the move will see other local pharmacies follow suit to reduce the amount of plastic put into landfill.

Rita Okeke, superintendent pharmacist at Ixworth, said: “As a small local pharmacy we take our responsibility to the environment very seriously and want to play our part in reducing plastic waste.

“Although medicines have to have some plastic packaging for safety reasons we want to minimise plastic being used by our pharmacy.”

Prescriptions will be now be placed in large paper carrier bags which can be easily recycled.

“We feel it is the responsibility of everyone to reduce plastic in our environment and are proud to have made this change,” said Rita.
