Pedestrian dies in car accident

An elderly man died on Friday after he was involved in an accident with a car outside of a supermarket in Stowmarket.

Shortly after 2pm Ronald Child, an 89-year-old pedestrian, was in collision with a silver VW Fox in a section of the ADSA supermarket off of Wilkes Way.

When paramedics arrived Mr Child was unconscious and had a head wound and a lower leg fracture.

Part of the store’s car park was closed for around five hours while forensic collision investigators carried out inquiries.

Mr Child, of Grinstead Gardens, in Needham Market, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, where he later died.

The car driver, a 57-year-old woman from Stowmarket, was not injured.
