Parks can win national honour

Have your say

THREE St Edmundsbury parks are among the best in the country.

There’s a hat-trick of awards following the announcement the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds, Nowton Park, and East Town Park in Haverhill have won coveted green flags confirming they are among best in the country.

Now people can vote for their favourite to win a further award.

The Green Flag Award is a sign the park is well-maintained and well-managed, with excellent facilities. All three are previous winners, but have to re-apply each year.

Abbey Gardens saw the opening of an innovative new play area. And the foundations for a visitor centre at Nowton Park have been completed.

Councillor Sara Mildmay-White, St Edmundsbury Borough Council cabinet member, said: “The council recognises the value of open spaces and continues to invest in them.”
