THE chief officer of Mildenhall Parish Council is to retire after eight years in the role.
Caroline Steggles joined the council as deputy in 2004 before becoming CEO later that year.
In her time there, she has overseen projects including the Sainsbury’s development and the council’s accreditation as a Quality Parish Council in July 2010.
She said she had mixed emotions about her career coming to an end.
“I still enjoy the job so there was no angst about quitting but there’s also excitement for what’s ahead.”
Ms Steggles, who lives in Beck Row, said she now planned to make the most of her garden and spend more time with her baby grandson.
“I’ve got that great list of things that I want to do in my retirement and now I’m just looking forward to getting on with them,” she said.
A replacement for Ms Steggles will be decided upon in the coming months.
