DISABILITY charity Optua has been awarded three London 2012 Inspire Marks in recognition of the its Olympic- inspired events.

The Inspire Marks are awarded in recognition of events that stand out as being particularly accessible, inclusive, inspiring and stimulating.

David Finn, Optua’s leisure manager, said: “This is fantastic news. We’re so pleased to have this official link to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“We’ve worked hard over the last few years to use the excitement over London 2012 to encourage more disabled people to get into sport and other community activities.”

Optua is the only organisation in the country that has been awarded more than one disability sport-related London 2012 Inspire Mark.

Two of the Inspire Marks were awarded to the charity in recognition of its annual share days, the next of which will be held on Saturday, April 21, at Thurston Community College.

Optua’s tenth share day will celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, with a variety of themed arts workshops.

Those wanting to register to attend or volunteer at the share day should call Optua on 01473 836777.
