The black cloud of uncertainty which had been hanging over the Abbeygate Picturehouse, in Bury St Edmunds, has finally been lifted.
That’s excellent news not just for the staff at the Hatter Street cinema – but also for Bury as a whole.
When I try to explain to people from outside Suffolk the things which make our town so very special, I always come back to St John’s Street, the Abbey Gardens, the medieval grid and then the smaller shops and businesses which add to the mix of old and modern, big chains and smaller independents.
The Picturehouse is one of our gems – I watched the recent Nelson Mandela film there sitting on one of the comfy sofas and the atmosphere was amazing.
Multiply that experience many times across the town and you understand why people keep coming in their droves and why anything which adds to the overall appeal is vital for our continued succcess.
