Knee-jerk reactions are easy to come by over Suffolk FA’s decision to pull the plug on its £250,000 pledge towards the football project on Moreton Hall.

But let’s look a little deeper.

The onus is on Suffolk FA to get the best value for money it can from its investments. It must put its cash into football or will fall foul of criticism from its members. And rightly so.

The Moreton Hall sports project has evolved from its original state to include links to a new school on the estate. The decision therefore becomes a little more understandable.

What needs to happen now is for the bodies involved – the county council, borough council, Bury Town FC - to sit down and look at the bigger picture as there are major factors at play here.

Bury Town FC and Ram Meadow need help along on the journey as does school and sports provision more widely in the town with some joined-up thinking so that the whole project doesn’t stall – with sport being the ultimate winner.
