It’s Children In Need day and a time when millions of pounds will be raised across the UK all in the name of charity.

I never cease to be amazed at the amount of effort and goodwill shown each year for our youngsters. The tangible difference made by this annual fund-raiser is beyond belief.

But my attention this week was drawn away from the cuddly Pudsey Bear to a different cash windfall – nothing like the millions via Children In Need but possibly a life-changer for nearly 300 people each year in this neck of the woods.

The great work done each year by Papworth Trust Workwise helps those suffering from mental ill health. Workwise is an award-winning social enterprise that provides work-based training and specialist employment support.

St Edmunds Trust has given the group just under £30,000 which will be used to buy new equipment.

At an economic time when every pound is precious, it’s a wonderful gesture which will help some of those most at need of support in our society.
