Hands up if you’d like to sit in Deborah Cadman’s chair.
She’s the Suffolk County Council boss and needs to find £156 million in savings over four years.
That’s no mean feat. But the savvy Ms Cadman seems to know what needs to be done. She talks of collaboration and being more innovative. But you can’t lose that amount of money from a budget without losing people – and Ms Cadman holds her hands up to that outcome, too.
She even acknowledges her salary may seem like a king’s ransom to some – albeit more than £60,000 less than her rather controversial predecessor Andrea Hill.
People in the west of her county will be keen to see how a few things play out over the coming months.
School reorganisation and roads are the areas we will be focusing on and there needs to be an understanding at Endeavour House that Suffolk does not begin and end at the boundaries of Ipswich.
Bury St Edmunds will need some TLC over the coming months.
