Editor’s comment: Education is really down to us all

Have your say

Who would be a county councillor? Suffolk County Council’s cabinet meets next week with the thorny issue of school reorganisation on the agenda.

Members can’t win, can they...they have the futures of our young people in their hands and will be damned if they do and damned if they don’t go ahead with the shift from three-tier to two-tier schooling.

There are clear and coherent arguments on both sides of the fence. It seems everyone is wanting the same thing at the end of the day – a great education system for our children.

There have been calls for the process to be stalled – then concerns raised that this won’t help our children and the process should just move ahead quickly.

Whatever decision is taken – and a decision is needed to end the speculation and division – we would do well to remember something an old headmaster used to tell us parents: “It takes a whole community to raise a single child.”
