March 3, 1974, is a date which will never be forgotten at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club.
18 players and officials from the club were among 345 who perished when Turkish Airlines Flight 981 came down just minutes after taking off.
This week, club chairman Mike Robinson paid a poignant tribute to those who lost their lives – recognising the success of the moment has been built from the foundations of those who came before him.
“By achieving what we are now, you hope that those who lost their lives would be proud of where the club has grown to and what we are today,” he said.
40 years is a long time but the years will never dull the memories of those who lost their lives on that fateful day.
