A NURSE is to go the extra mile for a charity close to her heart.
Lisa Andrews, 36, will take part in the London Marathon to raise funds for Help the Hospices.
It will be the first time the West Suffolk Hospital nurse has braved the event.
She said: “It’s a great cause.
“I’ve had quite a lot of dealing with Help the Hospices through patients I’ve looked after at the hospital. They do a fantastic job.
“I had an aunt who was looked after by St Nicholas Hospice Care.
“I’ve an uncle who is seriously ill and being treated in a hospice in America, so it’s a little bit more poignant at the moment.”
Miss Andrews, who has been a nurse at the hospital for four years and works in the emergency admissions unit, has previously completed the Great North Run and is busy preparing for her latest challenge.
She said: “I started training for the half marathon about this time last year and I’ve just continued with it since then.
“I’m not the best of runners but I hope to get it done in five hours.
“Thanks to Pieroth, Herga Electric and Bardwell Primary School for all of their support.”
