People are once again being urged to send in nominations for their chosen sportsperson or club ahead of this years St Edmundsbury Sports Awards.
Nominations are set to open on Monday, July 1, for the annual awards, which will again take place at The Apex in town on Friday, September 27, and will be celebrating its seventh year.
Last year more than 300 guests attended the ceremony to watch Olympic bronze medallist boxer Anthony Ogogo present the awards.
There are 11 categories to enter this year: Sports Personality of the Year, Young Sports Personality of the Year, Unsung Hero, Lifetime Achievement, Triumph Over Adversity, Coach of the Year, Young Community Volunteer of the Year, Club of the Year, Senior Team of the Year, Junior Team of the Year, and the People’s Choice Award, voted for by the public.
The awards, run every year by Abbeycroft Leisure, aim to recognise outstanding sporting achievements made by sportsmen, women and juniors throughout the year and to celebrate the huge amount of work that takes place within sport in the borough of St Edmundsbury.
The award scheme, supported by the Bury Free Press and its sister paper the Haverhill Echo, is open to all sports enthusiasts and volunteers who are affiliated to a club within St Edmundsbury, part of a school team in the Borough of St Edmundsbury or reside within St Edmundsbury Borough.
Michelle Banfield-Curran, Abbeycroft’s partnership manager, said: “Last year was a fantastic year for sport and we had a record 80 entries for sports awards.
“We hope we will be able to continue to draw on last year’s success and recognise the outstanding sportsmen and women in our borough who deserve to be publicly recognised for their achievements.”
Winners of the St Edmundsbury Sports Awards will go on to the Suffolk Sports Awards hosted by Suffolk Sport next month.
If they are successful there they could be put forward for the BBC East Sports Awards.
You can nominate an individual or team online by visiting www.acleisure.com and clicking on the St Edmundsbury Sports Awards link.
There will also be nomination forms available at Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill Leisure Centres.
Closing date for nominations is midnight on August 31. Winners will receive an award, a souvenir photo, and £50 in prize money.
