Nominate your West Suffolk Hospital 'Shining Lights' for Patient Choice Award
Have you received outstanding care from an individual or team at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust who you feel deserves recognition?
Well here is your chance, with nominations now open for the Bury Free Press Patient Choice Award.
It is part of the trust’s Shining Lights awards, an annual celebration of staff excellence, and gives patients a voice to recognise their unsung heroes.
Barry Peters, Bury Free Press editor, said: “We’re delighted to once again join forces with the trust for this award.
“This is your chance to highlight the commitment and dedication of a member of staff or team who has made or continues to make a real difference to your experience at the trust.”
The award has been running for three years, with nominations shortlisted to three winners with one selected for the overall award of excellence.
Last year, the award went to voluntary services administrator Ros Burrows.
Ros was recognised for supporting the trust’s card delivery service, where loved ones send a patient an online message, and Ros’s team then writes or prints it on to a card with a choice of pictures, chosen by the family.
They then hand deliver the card to the patient.
Respiratory consultant Dr Phillippa Lawson and the King Suite team at Glastonbury Court were also shortlisted.
Dr Lawson gave incredible support to the family of one patient who was undergoing life-saving treatment.
King Suite was nominated by a patient who said they could not ‘praise the team highly enough’.
Linda Buckland, event organiser, said: “Our Shining Lights awards are a celebration of excellence across the whole trust and are a chance to pay tribute to those teams and individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding contribution or achievement in their field of work.
“The huge volume of nominations we receive each year is just incredible and highlights the dedication of our staff and the great work they do across the organisation.
“It’s no mean feat to select the winners, so hat’s off to our judging panel.
“Every single nominee is recognised, whether they make the shortlist or not, with a personal letter of recognition and thanks from our chair, Sheila Childerhouse.”
In addition to the Bury Free Press Patient Choice Award, there are 14 other Shining Lights categories including Clinical Team of the Year, Innovation Award, Rising Star and Employee of the Year.
New for this year is the award for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, which will presented to those teams or individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the trust to promote and develop a culture of inclusion, equality and diversity for staff and/or patients.
The awards will be presented at a special ceremony on May 22.
How to nominate:
To nominate your unsung hero at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Nominations should include your name and email or telephone number or address (one will do) as well as the name, and job title/department (if known) of the nominee and approximately 250 words to explain why they should be selected for an award.
The deadline is Friday, April 5.
A panel comprising trust directors and governors will shortlist the nominations to three winners who will be invited to attend the awards’ ceremony in May.
Trust chair Sheila Childerhouse will select her Award of Excellence in each category, which will be presented to one of the three winners at the ceremony.
