BURY Festival manager Nick Wells is indulging in a special poetic version of Desert Island Discs as part of the Bury Fringe festival.

Nick is taking part in ‘Desert Island Poems’ at Benson Blakes on May 8, choosing 10 poems and one piece of music he could not live without.

Between hearing his poems Nick will be interviewed about his early life, his time as a musician playing trombone and piano, and the joys and challenges of organising a prestigious arts festival.

Members of Suffolk’s five poetry cafes will then read aloud his choice.

Nick said: “I have often thought what music would I choose on Desert Island Discs but hadn’t thought what poems I would choose. But through thinking what I would choose I have realised I know more about poetry than I thought I did .I am really looking forward to it.”

The event, starting at 7.30pm, is part of the Bury Fringe Festival and is being put on with the help of Poetry Aloud and Suffolk Poetry Society. For further details, call 01284 701947.
