New Year honours

A NUMBER of people with Suffolk connections have been recognised in The Queen’s New Year’s Honours.

Among them is former Stowmarket Grammar School student Professor Diarmaid MacColloch, who works at Oxford University, who has been knighted for his services to scholarship.

He is now a world-renowned historian and TV presenter, famed for his involvement with the television series The History of Christianity.

The professor returned for the school’s centenary in 2010 and gave a lecture, entitled From A Suffolk Rectory to Oxford, his father having been a local vicar.

Earning the MBE was Wing Commander Richard Hooker for services to the RAF Regiment at RAF Honington.
