A butcher’s shop in Thurston has been renovated and given a new lease of life by a new owner.

Alastair Angus (29) has taken over Thurston Butchers, in School Road, from previous owner, Eric Goodridge.

He is working alongside Trevor Brinkley, who worked at the shop previously, as well as apprentice Harvey Francis, who moved with Alastair from their previous role at Elmswell Butchers.

Mr Angus said: “This butcher’s shop has always had a solid reputation and when I heard it was on the market I thought it would make an exciting venture for me.

“I’ve always wanted to have my own butcher’s shop and thought that this was the perfect opportunity.

“The team have been in the shop for two weeks now and the response has been very positive.

“It’s early days are we are getting busier and busier.

“The support from everyone in the local and surrounding areas has been fantastic.”

The shop is selling beef from local farms and also stocking free-range Blythburgh pork, local lamb, chickens from Norfolk and a range of seasonal game.

Mr Angus added: “Our aim is to be a traditional butcher with a modern twist.

“We pride ourselves on provenance and locally sourced, high-welfare meat.

“We also recognise that our customers love a variety of prepared and easy to cook products, including stuffed and marinated meats for their convenience.”

The shop is open Tuesday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm and on Saturdays from 7.30am to 1pm.
