As part of a nationwide transformation programme the Feltwell Post Office will change locale to One Stop in an attempt to improve access and opening hours, among other things.
By moving into the One Stop, located at 25 High Street, Feltwell, the Post Office aims to be open an extra 58 hours each week and will no longer close at lunchtime.
The site also offers a convenient, quick-service, open-plan till, a more spacious premises with improved disability access (level flooring throughout will replace interior stairs), a shorter commute for some customers and will be open seven days a week.
Despite the numerous advantages and local support for the change, there have been a few objections from the local community.
These objections consist mainly of concerns about parking and congestion as well as privacy concerns based on the Post Offices new location inside a store. The fact that it will increase journey time for some customers has also been mentioned.
The Post Office has replied to local concerns by reviewing parking and deeming it to be “roughly comparable to the current branch”. It is also working closely with One Stop to deal with privacy issues, focusing on queue layout and asking customers to remain back from the counter while waiting for service.
The current branch, located at The Beck, will close at 5:30pm, April 12, and the new branch will open for the first time at 1pm April 13.
The new branch will offer banking, bill payment, benefits and travel money, postage, home shopping returns and Local Collect.
