A new chapter has begun in the life of an independent furniture shop based in Bury St Edmunds, after it opened its showroom on Monday.
Edmunds and Clarke – the new name for The Pine Shop – has opened on the Barton Road Retail Park.
It follows 36-years of trading from a shop in Southgate Street.
Peter Edmunds said: “It is a big change for me. My dad started the business in 1977 and I took over in 1999.
“The new showroom allows us to have more on display. We had outgrown our old shop.
“It means people can see the individual pieces better .
“At the old shop some of them were hidden and customers had to to manoevre around them to open a sideboard or look at them in detail.
“We didn’t really have enough room.
“The new showroom also has a lot more parking – the situation for customers parking at the old shop was a nightmare.”
The business had to close for two and a half months while the move took place.
“It is a relief that we are finally in,” said Peter.
He said the move also meant that its workshop and storage are now all on-site
Previously the business had to store items in a number of barns and buildings.
The pine shop move has also seen a change of name to Edmunds and Clarke to reflect Sam Clarke becoming an equal partner.
Sam has been at the shop ever since Peter took over.
“He has been a real asset and as we expanded I needed someone to come onboard. It is the best thing to do for all of us,” said Peter.
